Comfortable, Gentle Extractions
Why Are Extractions Necessary?
Decay or Damage
If a tooth is too damaged by trauma or decayed by bacteria to be repaired with a crown or root canal procedure, extraction at our Bloomington, IL, practice may be the best solution.
Many patients don't have room in their jaw for all their teeth. Some teeth may block others from erupting or put pressure on neighboring teeth, increasing the chance for other health issues.
If the pulp in a tooth's root canal is infected with bacteria, the decay can spread to the jawbone tissue supporting the tooth. In this case, root canal treatment to remove the pulp may not save the tooth.
When teeth fail to erupt properly and become trapped in the gums or jaw, they can cause pain, infected tissue, swelling, crowding, and decay. Wisdom teeth often become impacted and require surgical removal. Our dentists can safely perform all aspects of wisdom teeth extraction, so you do not need to see an outside endodontist.

What to Expect during Your Procedure
- Before your extraction procedure, we will take an x-ray of the area to precisely plan the treatment. For wisdom teeth, we may also perform a panoramic x-ray to assess their position in the jaw and their relation to your sinuses and nerves.
- On the day of your procedure, we will administer a local anesthetic to numb the area. If you are concerned about the extraction or need multiple teeth removed, we can provide sedation to ensure your comfort. Detailed post-extraction instructions will be provided to you.
There are two main types of extractions: simple and surgical.
