What Makes Invisalign Different?

Invisalign does away with the unsightly and uncomfortable metal brackets and wires associated with traditional orthodontics. Instead, Invisalign uses a series of nearly invisible clear aligners that gradually straighten your teeth.

About every two weeks, you switch to the next aligner in a series of numbered trays. Treatment generally takes 12 to 18 months.

Each aligner is carefully designed to make contact with each tooth. The aligners themselves are made out of a patented material called SmartTrack® that provides improved control over the movement of the teeth. For our Bloomington-area patients, this means greater predictability and faster treatment

Invisalign Improves Your Experience By Providing

Comfort

Braces with their metal wires and brackets are notorious for being uncomfortable. Each Invisalign aligner is made of smooth, medical-grade plastic molded to fit precisely over your teeth. There's nothing to irritate the soft tissue in your mouth.

Discretion

One of the most obvious benefits of a clear aligner is that it is nearly invisible in your mouth, a boon to both teens and adults looking to improve their smile without having to endure uncomfortable stares or unfortunate selfies.

Flexible Diets

Popcorn and caramels are back on the menu, along with apples and carrots. Because aligner trays are removable, you can eat your favorite foods without worry.

Lifestyle Freedom

Contact sports are a concern when wearing braces since you run the risk of cutting the inside of your mouth on the brackets and wires. If you lead an active lifestyle, aligners with their snug fit and smooth surface can be a safer option.

Invisalign Treatment

A Discreet Alternative to Traditional Braces

Traditional braces are noticeable, which is a drawback for many teens and adults; however, there is a less visible way to straighten your teeth: clear aligners from Invisalign.

Teen and adult patients appreciate how subtle the clear aligners are, giving them a discreet way to straighten their teeth. Aligners can also be taken out when eating, which means that you don't have to adjust your diet during orthodontic treatment. Additionally, if you feel discomfort, you can take a small break from wearing your clear aligners, which you cannot do with traditional braces.

Orthodontists have determined that Invisalign aligners are best at correcting minor cosmetic issues, so if you have severe misalignment or bite problems, you may be a better candidate for traditional braces.

Still deciding between Invisalign treatment and traditional braces?

Over 9 million people, including more than 1.4 million teens, have used Invisalign clear aligners to transform their smiles.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?
$3,500 to $5,700

At our practice, the cost of Invisalign generally ranges from $3,500 to $5,700. Of course, each patient's case is unique, and the price will depend on how much correction is needed and other factors unique to your smile.

If you need Invisalign attachments — and our patients often do — then this can impact your final price. However, Invisalign is a great investment in your confidence — and with proper retainer wearing, the results can last for a lifetime.

What Does Invisalign Treatment Look Like?

Searching for clear aligners in Bloomington, IL? You can expect your treatment to look something like this:

Our practice has been a trusted dental provider for more than 100 years.
Our practice has been a trusted dental provider for more than 100 years.

Consultation

We'll begin by listening to your expectations, educating you on the process, and assessing your eligibility during a consultation at our Bloomington dental office. If you are a suitable candidate for Invisalign, our dentist will use our state-of-the-art digital scanner to create a 3D model of your mouth. We can even show you a digital representation of what you can expect your smile to look like after treatment.

Planning

Using high-tech software, a custom treatment plan will be designed to move your teeth into their correct position. Then Invisalign lab technicians will create an aligner for each stage of the treatment. This step takes between two and four weeks.

Invisalign Attachments

In many cases, we use discreet Invisalign attachments. We will secure them to your natural teeth with an adhesive. They help us reposition your teeth more efficiently.

Receiving Aligners

When your aligners are ready, you will return to the practice to pick them up and receive instructions on how to use and maintain them. Your dentist will also answer any questions you might have.

Daily Wear

To be effective, clear aligners need to be worn 20 to 22 hours a day. They should be removed when you eat and to be cleaned. If you don't wear your aligners for the required hours every day, then your treatment may need to be extended or you may have poor results.

Follow-up Visits

You or your child will visit us once a month, so that our dentists can monitor your progress. On your final visit, we will ensure that your treatment is successful before removing your attachments.

Retainer Use

To maintain your new smile, you'll need to wear a custom retainer, which we can give to you after your treatment is complete. Luckily, wearing a retainer is just like wearing your clear aligners — except you only have to put it in at night.

What If I'm Not An Invisalign Candidate?

Our dentists will assess your smile to determine if Invisalign is the right orthodontic treatment for you. Commonly, we treat patients with crowding or post-orthodontic relapse. If you have a complex case that requires metal braces, we will refer you to an orthodontist; however, for many people, Invisalign is the right choice, especially with help from Invisalign attachments.

Beyond Braces: Other Alternatives to Invisalign

There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all cosmetic treatment for smiles. If aligners are not appropriate in your case, the highly skilled cosmetic dentists at our Bloomington, IL, office have the background and training to offer alternatives. Drs. Wyse and Chrisman have decades of experience restoring smiles using a variety of procedures, including veneers, crowns, and dental implants.

FAQ About Invisalign

What should I do if I lose a retainer?

Don't stress — just stay prepared. By keeping your previous aligners on hand, you can have something to wear even if your retainer is lost or damaged. Then, reach out to us, and we'll determine the best course of action for you.

Do I need to go to an orthodontist for Invisalign?

No! Our Illinois family dentists are able to conduct your orthodontic plan. That means you or your teenager can trust the same team you visit for your general appointments: Dr. Chrisman and Dr. Wyse.

What if I want to rejuvenate my smile even further?

If you want a more comprehensive option, you can consider a smile makeover, which includes cosmetic dental procedures like teeth whitening and dental bonding. Typically, eligibility can depend on your age, budget, and health.

Can I get Invisalign, even with an unhealthy smile?

No — at our Bloomington practice, your oral health always comes first. Luckily, Dr. Wyse and Dr. Chrisman can perform general and restorative procedures like fillings and root canal therapy to ensure you're completely ready for Invisalign.
