Invisalign®: Who Is a Good Candidate?

While braces are a standard treatment for crooked teeth, more and more people have been turning to Invisalign®. Invisalign® is a comfortable and hard-to-notice alternative to the traditional orthodontic treatments of the past. Rather than using brackets and wires to straighten the teeth, Invisalign® uses clear plastic aligner trays that are custom-crafted to your smile. Every two weeks, a new aligner is used to help gradually shift the position of the teeth.

Chrisman & Wyse is proud to offer Invisalign® to people in and around Bloomington. Invisalign® is great for a couple of reasons. The three most important reasons are, arguably:

Assessing the State of Your Smile

The most important factor in candidacy for Invisalign® is the nature of your problem. If your teeth are crooked and the issue is the position of the teeth themselves, Invisalign® may be an ideal option for you and your needs.

However, Invisalign® can't treat all problems. If your bite is poorly aligned because of the shape of your palate, the position of your upper and lower jaw relative to one another, or other more complex issues, Invisalign® is not an ideal option to consider. Traditional and more involved orthodontic treatments will be required.

X-rays and a review of your dental history will help determine if Invisalign® is right for you.

A Great Option for Teenagers

Teenagers make excellent candidates for Invisalign®. Once all of a person's permanent teeth have emerged, Invisalign® can shift them into proper position and enhance the health of your smile in the process. Teens are especially happy about Invisalign® being hard to notice. They won't need to feel self-conscious around others while they're getting the orthodontic care they need.

In addition, teens can remove their Invisalign® aligners for special occasions as needed. That means during school pictures, prom, or high school sports, the tray can be taken out for a little while.

Excellent for Adult Orthodontics

Adults also make great candidates for Invisalign®. These clear aligner trays won't be noticed, even when people are up close. That means you can undergo Invisalign® while at your job and when running errands as you normally would. In fact, Invisalign® is a boon to people who work in professions that involve a lot of public interaction.

What If Invisalign® Isn't Right for Me?

If Invisalign® isn't an ideal treatment for you, there are plenty of other options to consider. Traditional orthodontic care can help address serious issues with malocclusion, and give you the straight and healthy smile you deserve. Sometimes Invisalign® can be used after another orthodontic procedure has been performed.

During the consultation process, we will be more than happy to discuss all of your options for having a straight, perfectly aligned smile.
